40/40

Located on the Ruta 40, at kilometer 40 south of Mendoza, winemaker Lucas Pfister took over the family estate Finca la Sofia in 2013. Half Argentine, half German, Lucas studied viticulture and enology in France before starting moving back to Argentina to make wine. His motto is good grapes equals good wine, and as he demonstrates with his line up, he grows some damn good grapes.

The vineyards are located at 890m above sea level, and enjoy hot summer days followed by cool nights. The area is very dry and the vineyards rely on irrigation. Lucas and his team grow Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Merlot, Bonarda, Chardonnay, and Torrontés. They harvests early to ensure that 40/40 wines always maintain a lively freshness to compliment the ripe fruit flavours the hot Mendoza sun encourages.
